IDEA enjoyed perusing the abundance of design inspiration at BDNY in Manhattan this month. A few of our favorite themes that permeated the exhibitors on display this year were:
Tile Murals
We saw so many creative uses of tile used in wall mural installations. What better way to add texture and a pop of color than with mosaics? Also, how cute does Iris Apfel look in tile form? #goals. TileBar’s soon-to-be-launched collection of 8×8 porcelain tiles in collaboration with this design icon were given a spotlight at their booth.
Botanical Whimsy
Florals as décor are nothing new, but we were loving the mix of plants and flowers with more modern elements and as an element of surprise. Isn’t that wallscape from Opiary (center) beautiful? We love using organic, botanical forms in our designs when the application calls for the softness, green tones and whimsy that foliage can provide.
Dimensional Lighting
We saw many inspiring light installations – lots of brass and bronze tones, with some interesting juxtaposition of shapes and forms. Geometric shapes are here to stay, but we enjoyed seeing them stacked and layered with different textures to provide depth and dimension.
We’ll see you next year, BDNY!
